BDS warns on wasting disease

The British Deer Society has renewed a warning to all deer managers, gamekeepers and countryside users to be on the alert for Chronic Wasting Disease in deer.

The disease is currently only found in parts of North America and Korea, but the Society warns it could have a devastating impact on the country’s deer population should it take hold over here, and will restrict stalking and venison sales.

To reduce the risk of it transferring, the BDS has advised everyone to limit the transport of venison, trophies, and soiled outdoor gear between the UK and areas suffering CWD and sporting agents are encouraged to offer to loan kit to overseas hunters coming from affected regions.
