Game poaching down but crime ‘still a threat’

freeimage-6679770A new report on wildlife crime in Scotland is out – and it says there’s still a serious threat from poaching and other crimes.

Poaching, raptor poisoning and freshwater pearl mussel incidents were reported as being up in the previous year – though other forms of crime, including badger crimes and bat persecution, were down.
Most poaching offences were recorded in salmon and freshwater fisheries, with game poaching falling sharply.

Scotland’s environment minister Paul Wheelhouse said wildlife crime was “still taking place at unacceptable levels”.
