Browning, Eley Hawk and Gamebore are among the winners as the Great British Shooting Awards 2020 results are revealed.

Shooting Show Awards 2020

The Great British Shooting Awards crowned their second set of winners on 15 February, with BASC’s Duncan Thomas receiving a Lifetime Achievement award and Browning, Tikka, Nightforce, Gamebore and Pulsar among the winners.

First launched in 2018, the Awards’ aim is to give recognition to the products, organisations and people that make our industry tick. They announced their first winners at the British Shooting Show in February 2019 and returned bigger and better this year, adding three new categories.

Hosting the awards for the second year, head judge and Future Field Sports’ editor-in-chief, Peter Carr, reflected on an eventful 2019 for the gun trade: “It seemed that at every turn, someone was trying to ban what we do, or restrict it, or make it more expensive.

“But we have plenty to celebrate. I have seen some of the amazing work done to fight back against prejudice.

“I’ve seen visionaries, coming up with the next new product or way to get newcomers hooked on shooting. I’ve seen captains of industry, branding gurus and digital pioneers. More than anything else, I’ve seen people working damn hard, keeping their businesses going or out there supporting our countryside and the wildlife in it.

“At our core, that’s what we are – a tribe of hard workers.”

Pulsar returned as the awards’ headline sponsor and also picked up the Night Vision/Thermal Product of the Year award for the Thermion XP50, while Deerhunter’s Pro Gamekeeper jacket was victorious in the Apparel of the Year category.

Browning’s 725 ProSport won Shotgun of the Year, the Tikka T3X Cerakote was Rifle of the Year, and Air Arms’s S510 won Airgun of the Year for the second year in a row.

Two shotgun cartridge makers were celebrated, meanwhile, as Gamebore’s Black Gold won the Shotgun Ammunition award and Eley Hawk’s water-soluble Pro Eco wads were crowned the most innovative product.

What the winners said…

“It’s always great to win an award, particularly when it’s voted for by your own peers in the industry. It’s a proven winner in competitions, and sales volumes are excellent, so we’re really pleased to win.”
– David Stapley, Browning

“What a surprise! To be frank, this is down to a massive effort from an extended team. Someone once said to me, ‘Surround yourself in competence’, and I really do have a good, skilful, enthusiastic team around me. Our volunteers are absolutely priceless too. What a fantastic result from a team effort.”
– Duncan Thomas

“I’m humbled, knowing how many good gamekeepers are out there. To have the public vote for me is a great honour.

“I’m chuffed to bits!”
– Geoff Garrod

“We have to say thankyou to all the British shooting community. If we want to make sure the sport is able to survive over a number of years, we have to take part in the eco revolution, and we like to think that embracing the Pro Eco wad is a step in the right direction.”
– Rodrigo Crespo, Eley Hawk

“I’m ecstatic. To actually win with our subsonic hollow points is fantastic. Thanks to the team at Eley – all the people on the floor who actually manufacture the product – really, the award is for them.”
– Martyn Buttery, Eley Ltd

“We’re delighted. The Thermion has been a massive success for us. It’s got a revolutionary design, and it’s nice to see the hard work the manufacturers put into it being rewarded.”
– Mark Davies, Thomas Jacks
