The new face of BASC

Martyn Howat has been elected as the new chairman of BASC’s governing council. Having joined the council in 2010 to represent Northumberland, Martyn, 59, has been an avid game shooter and wildfowler all his life. He is a member of several wildfowling and shooting syndicates and manages a salmon fishing syndicate.

Before becoming a BASC council member, Martyn worked in environment management for 38 years and was most recently the director of uplands for Natural England.

Of his new position, Martyn said: “I am delighted and proud to be appointed to serve as chairman of BASC council. I hope my first-hand knowledge of the benefits which shooting brings to the countryside and society will help BASC in the tremendous work it undertakes to ensure the high standards of our sport.
“I will do my utmost to promote what we do and do so well.”
